Warner still not ready for four-day first class cricket, says NSW skipper

Sydney, Mar.2 (ANI): New South Wales skipper Dominic Thornely is in no doubt one-day sensation David Warner is not yet ready for the Sheffield Shield.

Though Test greats Glenn McGrath and Mark Waugh have wondered aloud why Warner has not been blooded at Shield level after bursting onto the international limited-overs scene, Thornely is adamant that the time is not quite right for Warner to break into the NSW Shield team.

It has been fantastic for Australian cricket to see a guy like Dave come out and do what he did. But I still think Dave has got a little bit of a way to come for four-day cricket, the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Thornley, as saying.

He has stepped up in the short version of Australian cricket in a very quick way - he had his memorable knock. And since then has been brought back to the field a little bit,! he added.

Warner's Twenty20 heroics were enough to earn a one day call-up but he was eventually dropped from the Australian limited-overs team after averaging just 17.66 from six games.

Warner provided a not so subtle reminder to NSW selectors last Saturday with 12 fours and three sixes in an 88-ball 100 not out for Eastern Suburbs against Sydney University.

Thornely said there was a place for Warner in the NSW Shield team - but not just yet. (ANI)
